Setting drawing sheet and using wizard

These are two ways to create views, if you chose to create an empty sheet while opening the drafting workbench instead of preset views.
  • Using a wizard
  • Custom
You may even use a combination of the two, where some of the view may be created using wizard while other using views from the views toolbar. Regardless of the method you choose, as a first step, you should always setup the drawing sheet. In this, you may setup the projection method, sheet size and scale to be used for views. In case you are satisfied with the standard you selected while defining the sheet, you may not do this.

Setting up sheet

To set the sheet, right click on the sheet and select properties. In the dialogue box that opens up, you can define the projection method, sheet size, orientation as well as default scale for all views. If you want to change the name of the sheet, you can do so that as well from the properties dialogue box.
Setting up Drawing sheet
No matter which method you choose for creating views, adding title block and border etc. will require a set of common steps that we will see later on. First we will see, how to use the wizard for creating views.

Using wizard

The wizard to be used for creating views can be accessed using the path Insert > Views > Wizard. Same wizard can also be accessed using Views toolbar. Along with the wizard, there are also other options that will create predefined views (First config, Second config, Third config) just like in case of preset views. However, the difference here is that you have the option to define the front view as per your preference.
Ways you can access wizard and other configurations for views creation
To be able to use the wizard, the part file / assembly file for which you wish to create drawings must be already open. The views that the wizard and other three options will create will depend upon the method (first angle projection / third angle projection) that you selected during sheet setup. In the wizard dialogue box, not only can you select the options for views, within the window itself, you can move the views and place them as per preference (see below). You can also define the distance that you want between views.
Views created using wizard
After choosing wizard or any of the other three options, you would need to go to the part window from window option and select the part file and the planar face you wish to use for front view. Based on this front view, all other views will be created.

A drawing with simple views containing front, bottom, top etc. may be completed with the use of wizard. However, it's unlikely that you would not require section views, detail views of any kind. So, for this reason there are other tools that can let us create any view of our choice. To make a completely custom drawing we may first create a front view and extract other views from this particular view. In the next section, we will see how to create different kind of views using any particular view or front view.
